What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound derived from the cannabis sativa plant, and is a holistic remedy used for many common ailments. It is only one of many cannabinoids produced by cannabis and hemp, and indirectly interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system to optimize bodily functions, supporting the regulation of our mood, hunger, sleep cycle, memory, and even immune system.
Typically derived from hemp, increasing studies have shown that CBD can not only impart feelings of relaxation and calm, but may also act as a natural remedy for sleep relief, anti-inflammation, pain relief, bacterial & viral infections, and even neurodegenerative disorders. Unlike its cousin, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the major active ingredient in marijuana, CBD is not psychoactive.
Andas offers a range of premium CBD products - from CBD tinctures, CBD skincare, CBD coffee & tea and more, all to support your natural wellbeing.
Although it has been used throughout history by various civilizations around the world, CBD was not formally studied until recently, with increasing evidence showing its many values and benefits, with minimal risk and side effects.
Anxiety & Stress
Anxiety, the most prevalent mental health disorder, affects an estimated 284 million people globally (2017). Increasing evidence suggests that CBD supports anxiety relief, helping the body process serotonin, normalize bodily functions and better adapt to stress, positively impacting happiness and natural wellbeing.
Relaxation & Sleep
A self-care ritual in the morning or before bed is in itself already a calming practice. When you sprinkle in high-quality herbs and CBD, that's when magic happens. By promoting homeostasis within the body, CBD produces both calming effects on the body and is a natural sleep aid to induce a good night’s sleep.
Inflammation & Pain Relief
CBD - nature's pain relief remedy. The CBD cannabinoid interacts with the body’s immune system to reduce pain and inflammation for a number of conditions, and many people with chronic pain or skin-inflammation conditions often use CBD as a natural alternative to medications and steroids.
Frequently Asked Questions
More about CBD
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of several dozen active compounds found in cannabis. CBD’s infamous cousin, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is the compound that’s associated with marijuana’s “high” or psychoactive effects. CBD has zero psychoactive effects.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis sativa plant. Of over 480 different compounds present in the plant, only around 66 are termed cannabinoids. The most well known among these compounds is the delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), which is the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. Cannabidiol (CBD) is the next most well-known compound, of which our products are based.
Is hemp the same as marijuana?
No, it’s not. Although often confused as interchangeable, hemp and marijuana are two completely different plants that both happen to be part of the cannabis family, with a chemical makeup, application, appearance, and cultivation which are entirely different. Some people confuse hemp products with marijuana because they’re both types of cannabis. Marijuana produces little to no CBD with high amounts of THC, typically between 3 and 15 percent THC. Hemp used for hemp CBD products is bred to contain low amounts of THC, less than one percent, and high amounts of CBD - the therapeutic compound that we love. Hong Kong CBD products by law cannot have more than 0.0% THC by dry weight.
Is CBD safe?
While it’s true that we still haven't pinpointed the exact extent of CBD’s anti-inflammatory, anxiety relief, sleep aid and antioxidant biological mechanisms, the ever increasing number of studies being done have demonstrated its safety, and have noted that even higher CBD doses over a sustained long term period don’t cause any undue harm to patients over the course of clinical trials. To date, there have been no adverse side effects discovered. According to a report from the World Health Organization, “CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential [meaning] there is no evidence of health-related problems associated”. However, as with any supplement, please do consult your doctor prior to use, particularly if you are on existing medication or if pregnant.
Is CBD addictive?
According to a report from the World Health Organization, “CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential".
Will I get high or stoned?
The CBD molecule does not produce any psychoactive effects. At most, you may just feel a relaxed clarity. Our products do not contain THC, the compound that produces a high.
I love this! But is CBD legal?
CBD is legal. THC is illegal. In the US, hemp CBD with less than 0.3% (i.e. a tiny amount) of THC was made legal for consumers in 2018, while CBD with less than 0.2% THC has been legal in the UK since 2017. In Hong Kong, the regulations are even more strict, with only hemp CBD products containing 0.0% THC legal. Our premium CBD products are fully compliant with local legislation and laws, so you can relax worry-free.
