Everyone in Hong Kong is talking about CBD lately- CBD skincare, CBD coffee, CBD oil, CBD tea, CBD... just fill in the blank, but is it worth the hype? To start off, let’s get to know what exactly CBD is.
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a naturally found element of the cannabis sativa plant. It is one of many cannabinoids produced by cannabis and hemp, and indirectly interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system to optimise bodily functions, supporting the regulation of our mood, hunger, sleep cycle, memory and even immune system.
The cannabis sativa plant has two primary species- hemp and marijuana. Hemp however, contains a much higher percentage of CBD, with very low levels of THC compared to marijuana. Increasing studies have shown that CBD can not only help with relaxation and anxiety, but also as a natural remedy for sleep relief, anti-inflammation, pain relief, bacterial and viral infections, and even neurodegenerative disorders. And unlike THC, which is the major active ingredient of marijuana, CBD is not psychoactive and will not make you high. It’s therapeutically potent, non-intoxicating and non-addictive.
The fact that it is therapeutically potent, but not intoxicating nor addictive, makes it an appealing treatment and wellness option for many. With a plethora of benefits, it’s no wonder why everyone is hopping on the CBD train.
Verdict? Yes - it’s hype worthy.
